Pook-a-Looz Vinyls Are a Go!

Long time no news, huh? It’s been almost a year since I’ve had something to post in the blog, isn’t that terribly sad? But hopefully this is the start of Round 2 for the Pook-a-Looz series!

Since we’ve heard nothing about the Pook-a-Looz Vinyl Figures since first being announced back in January 2011, (remember this post, first look at the Pook-a-Looz Vinyl Figures?) I decided to inquire with the company and find out if they were still going to be produced. I received a quick answer back from the awesome people at MindStyle who assured me they are still coming out, but just haven’t been released yet. That was mid-2011.

Then today, this photo showed up in the forums at Vinylnation.net, posted by member “JungleCruse”:

From Left to Right: Pluto, Snow White, Pinocchio, New Mickey (looking like the 2011 Hallmark Ornament), Jack Skellington, Mad Hatter, New Pooh and Cheshire Cat.

Still waiting for more details, so I will update this post and the blog as we find out more. But it’s looking like the Pook-a-Looz series has at least one last breath in it. It might be a pipe dream, but hopefully these will do well and we’ll get some new characters as plush!

Live from Disneyland & California Adventure: Where are the Pook-a-Looz? Let’s Go on a Scavenger Hunt!

Yes, you read that right! We’re down in Disneyland right now and for the next two days, I’ll be giving you all the latest updates about where you can find Pook-a-Looz at the Disneyland Resort in California! We’re checking out Disneyland, California Adventure, and even swinging by Downtown Disney to check out LittleMissMatched!

Not near Disneyland or planning a trip? That’s okay, because I’m going to also be giving you all the info for ordering from the Parks over the phone. So anything you see updated here in the next two days is available right now at Disneyland and you can call and order it and complete your collections!

So, how will this work? Two ways: first, I’ll be live tweeting my Pook-a-Looz scavenger hunt as we comb the Park for Pooks. (Follow on Twitter @PookALoveMomo) Then at the end of the day, I’ll post here with a round-up filled with photos and much more detailed info about the exact stores and all the Pooks that are available there (so you can tell the phone order people exactly where to look.)

I hope this will help out some of you complete your collections or at least give you an idea of what’s out there now since Pooks are almost exclusively at the Parks now! Remember, follow @PookALoveMomo for live updates and don’t be afraid to get in on the fun too by getting on Twitter or commenting on the blog!

Look Who’s Pook-a-Looz! Hallmark Special Edition Ornament Gets a D23 Makeover

Anyone else see the mysterious black and white Pook-a-Looz ornaments popping up on eBay the last few days? Looks like both the rumors were true, Disney released the ornaments at Hallmark stores and D23!

If you’re not familiar with it, D23 is a convention of sorts held annually for Disney fans to geek out with each other, meet people like the rad Disney artists, and get a sneak peek of upcoming Disney releases. You might remember that Pook-a-Looz were first announced at the 2009 D23! (Check out this Flickr album of someone who was there, and got some awesome pictures of the 2009 event.)

As far as I can tell from the pictures, the D23 ornaments are the exact same as the Hallmark version, except in black and white with “D23″ written on it’s head. Kind of reminds me of the exclusive Steamboat Mickey keychain from D23 2009:

Except, it’s not the Steamboat Willie Mickey… it’s just black and white version of the original Mickey. So maybe this is Plane Crazy style Mickey, and maybe we’re going to get another version of Mickey released as a black and white plush since usually releases like this lead to a new plush. What do you think?

So, I definitely need your help with this! Anyone go to D23 and either see or get the Pook-a-Looz ornaments? New & Parks Exclusive Pook-a-Looz Released on DisneyStore.com (It’s About Time!!)

Finally, a DisneyStore.com Pook-a-Looz update that is not just a clearancing out of the Sham and Duvet Cover! They’ve brought back Pook-a-Looz plush to the online store in a big way. Before, the only way to get characters like the many incarnations of Mickey (Sorcerer, Parks, Pirate, etc…) was to go to the Parks or snag them on eBay. Now they are online! Hallmark Limited Edition Pook-a-Looz Ornament Released – This Weekend Only!

If you haven’t heard already (and hopefully you did through the new Pook-a-Love! Twitter Feed!) that Hallmark released an exclusive limited edition Pook-a-Looz ornament today, on sale July 16th and July 17th ONLY. This is a part of their Keepsake Ornament Premiere Weekend, which as I found out, is a pretty crazy big deal to ornament collectors. They release a bunch of ornaments in limited quantities to kick off the holiday season. Totally crazy in my opinion (it’s July!) but seeing as they released a Pook-a-Looz ornament, who am I to argue?

And, as we Pook collectors know, people are pretty split on Pook-a-Looz stuff. They either love it or hate it. Turns out, a lot of the ornament collector’s are not really all that interested in this ornament, which is awesome for us. While most of the releases, like the Golden Snitch ornament from Harry Potter, were gone immediately and people waited in line early in the morning just to get them, the Hallmark’s around me still had the Pook-a-Looz ones well into the afternoon. Call around tomorrow, I bet a lot of Hallmark’s still have them available!

I took some pics of mine for you guys so you could decide if it’s really worth the trek out to purchase. I don’t know if it’s completely clear from the photos, but he’s covered in fuzzy felt-like material, small and lightweight. He’s about three inches tall, the same size of Vinylmation. The official name of it is “Look Who’s Pook-a-Looz!” and the artist is Cullen Brown.

I really like it and think it’s cute, but it certainly has some interesting design choices. New Mickey’s not so “flat out fun” anymore… he’s got a bit of a tummy and some junk in the trunk! Personally, I found it hysterical, in a cute way.

The tail is pretty adorable and probably my favorite part. But it is definitely the most fragile part too. Be careful when unwrapping it from the tissue paper so it doesn’t snap off! I would even recommend checking that it’s in tact immediately after purchase. Hallmark has a reputation for high quality ornaments and I’m sure it’s not as flimsy as it appears, but it never hurts to make sure so you don’t bring home a damaged collectible.

First Look at Belle, Aurora and Lilo — Plus New Full Pics of Ariel, Gepetto, Jiminy Cricket and Timothy Mouse!

Got some super exciting news for you guys tonight! Look what I stumbled on just now. While browsing through some new Japanese Pook-a-Looz stationery, I spy with my little eye something that looks like…

Princesses!

Belle!

Aurora!

Lilo!

Ariel!

No way, there’s more!

Jiminy Cricket!

Timothy Mouse!

Gepetto!

Can you believe it!? All this just comes out of nowhere. Oh, Disney Japan, always keeping us Pook Fans on our toes. Yes, we all knew that Belle, Ariel, Gepetto, Jiminy Cricket and Timothy Mouse were bound to show up eventually. But Aurora and Lilo?! That’s pretty rad. Lilo is surprising yet not, Japan just got Stitch, Scrump and Angel this Spring. Why? Because the most popular Disney movie in Japan is Lilo and Stitch, so Disney gives the people what they want. Aurora, although, is complete surprise, but I’m pretty happy since Sleeping Beauty is my very favorite Disney movie. ;p Hopefully that means more Princesses are on the way!

And if I remember right, we got a Japanese stationery preview of Alien and Daisy right before they came out as plush. Could we be seeing Belle, Aurora, Lilo, Ariel, Gepetto, Jiminy Cricket and Timothy Mouse as plush in the near future? Watch out, wallet!
